People have been asking, How can you just up and move your entire life into the back of a truck?

Well, I have been planning this for about 2 years and here is the answer.

Downsize your life.

Since moving out to San Francisco I have discovered the wonderful housing option that is “Fully-Furnished”. To hell with owning a bunch of heavy useless couches, chairs, tables, TVs etc etc. I know others may think differently but to me those items are nothing but life anchors that are easily replaceable and certainly not worth lugging around with you. I have never understood why some folks move around the same crappy old desk/chair/lamp from place to place, or even worse people who have no room and pay storage fees to house their crap.

Sell it all! If you do not want to get a fully-furnished place then you can buy NICE furniture on craigslist for cheap, oftentimes being able to sell it for more than you paid in the first place!

Keep away from contracts.

Conveniently most of these furnished apartments are also on simple month-to-month leasing agreements or even better just a simple handshake agreement. They also include power, cable, garbage, internet etc. We avoid commitment like the plague. I also have a pre-paid cellphone and have been working as a 1099 contractor. This allows us to basically cut all ties with 30-day notice.

Immunizations

Yellow fever, Dengue, Malaria, Travelers Diarrhea, WestNile. The list goes on and on. A visit to your local travelers immunization clinic should prove enough to scare you out of this whole idea. Fret not, There are plenty of people who do not even bother with getting immunizations and they are traveling around just fine. Since we are visiting the entire continent of South America our print out was about 3 miles long and focuses primarily on Yellow Fever and Malaria as the biggest worries. I figured for the $400 or so it was worth the peace of mind to get some shots. We chose the following

> Yellow Fever
> Hepatitis A/B
> Typhoid
> Tetanus
> Malaria pills
> T/D Pills

I am in the process of planning the same trip down into South America and am trying to find all the information I can. I also bought a Toyota because of parts and repairs in SA but ended up with a Tundra. Which I think will be a good choice. I will follow your journey.
